Our Q&A with Charlie Roberts, Sr. SDET at Amazon

One of our primary goals in teaching web development is to expose our students to people who work in the industry. There are tons of different types of programmers who do work in tons of different fields, and it’s awesome for all of us to see what the day-to-day life of a programmer can look like.

Last week, we had the honor of hosting Charlie Roberts, a senior software development engineer at Amazon for a virtual Q&A with our students. He shared some great advice and answered a bunch of our questions.

Charlie shared a ton of great information with our code school students. Here are just a few takeaways:

  • It's not just the code. It's not just the product. It's how people interact with that.

  • A functional unit is a 2 pizza team.

  • If you know one language really well, it is easier to learn others.

  • No one is ever really confident. We all battle the imposter syndrome.

  • Ask yourself, what's going to happen that you didn't expect.

  • Find people who inspire you.

We’re so grateful to all of our partners, mentors, ambassadors and employers who take part in educating a new generation of software developers. If you aren’t already involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out! Thank you to Charlie and the Amazon team!
