It's time to take the leap into tech
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times - there has never been a better time to jump into the field of technology. The COVID-19 pandemic caused many of us to re-evaluate our career paths. More people are looking for opportunities to work remotely, to move out of large cities and to keep their skills sharp.
While we can’t fully claim technology - and specifically software development - as categorically “pandemic proof,” there is new data that points to the fact that this is a skill that remains highly in demand. CBRE’s tech talent report for 2021 says that, “Tech talent occupations rose over 2020 with a high demand for software developers in particular. Smaller markets benefitted from remote work as some urban workers left densely populated major markets amid pandemic concerns.” (source)
Here in the upstate of South Carolina, our innovation economy continues to grow, fueled by a strong startup ecosystem and great support from all sectors. The Upstate Alliance recently published their midyear report for 2021, citing that, “In the first half of 2021, announcements in the Upstate are triple the value and nearly twice the number of jobs announced in the same period of 2019.” Despite the pandemic, opportunities for innovative companies to grow in our area abound!
So how does all of this connect to code school? At Carolina Code School, we’re doing much more than simply teaching people how to code. We are helping them get prepared for careers of the future. Our accelerated approach changes how our students think - it is a full mindset shift that helps graduates understand how to identify problems, troubleshoot, find solutions, teach themselves new skills, and continue as lifelong learners. While coding is certainly a fundamental skill that can take people in many directions, often it’s these other skills - teamwork, forward-thinking, curiosity, problem solving - that help our students prepare for these innovation jobs of the future.
