First Cohort Graduates - Demo Day Success!

To celebrate our first class of graduating students, Carolina Code School hosted Demo Day on August 3rd at the NEXT Innovation Center. For the past 12 weeks, students Kevin Beach, John Hassler and Zach Thigpen attended our full-time Web Development Immersive course to learn the fundamentals of front-end and back-end coding.

Towards the end of the course, teachers Mady Chapman and Joel Taddei guided students in creating final projects to showcase their new skills in a large-scale application, a capstone of their portfolio.

Of the final project, Thigpen says:

“Going through the planning and execution of a full-scale project will give me a guide on how real-world time constraints and design decisions will go in the future. The code school pace is extremely fast and most other projects were completed in 1 or 2 days so having some time to fully flesh something out was a great way to end the cohort."

Thigpen’s  application, the Record Bin, allows owners of vinyl record collections to organize, collect and share vinyl records and connect with other collectors.

Kevin Beach’s application Console.Log allows users to log their collection of retro video games. Users may also message one another about game play or initiate game trades.

John Hassler’s application the Reptile Repo matches reptile owners with local veterinarians and other local resources, and allows experts to crowd-source helpful information about illnesses, pet stores and more.

Over 60+ community members showed their support at Demo Day. Attendees moved between student stations where each student explained and interacted with their application. Students came away from Demo Day with several business contacts that have led to both interviews and job offers.

Congratulations to our first class of cohorts! We are excited to see where coding takes you!
